Ohio State's wide receiver corps is in flux as rising sophomore Quincy Porter has entered the transfer portal, marking the fourth receiver to do so in the past month. Porter, a highly touted five-star prospect, was ranked No. 23 overall and No. 5 at wide receiver in the class of 2025 by 247Sports. Despite limited playing time in his first season at Ohio State, Porter showed promise with four receptions for 58 yards in five appearances. However, injury kept him out of several games, and his lone multi-catch outing came against Wisconsin on November 18th, where he had two receptions for 30 yards.
With Ohio State actively recruiting portal options like Texas' DeAndre Moore to bolster their starting lineup at receiver next year, Porter is likely seeking an opportunity to start elsewhere. The Buckeyes are in need of a bona fide wide receiver to replace Carnell Tate, who declared for the NFL draft on Tuesday. Porter's departure leaves Ohio State thin at wide receiver, as Bryson Rodgers, Mylan Graham, and Damarion Witten have already entered the portal earlier in the cycle. The only three scholarship wideouts returning next season for the Buckeyes, outside Smith and Inniss, are redshirt freshmen Phillip Bell, Bodpegn Miller, and De'zie Jones. Five-star prospect Chris Henry Jr. is one of four incoming freshman wideouts, along with Jerquaden Guilford, Brock Boyd, and Jaeden Ricketts.
New Ohio State wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton will have his work cut out for him as he builds and develops his first receiving room with the Buckeyes. The team is in a state of transition, and it remains to be seen how they will fill the void left by Porter and the other departing receivers.
